Interface Types Reference

There are five interface types available for direct interfaces:

There is one interface type available for indirect interfaces:

In general, any available interface type may be applied to an interface, regardless of the geometrical properties of the interface, such as whether the underlying boundaries are conformal or coincident in space. It is your responsibility to ensure that the interface type assigned to a specific interface makes sense from a physical modeling perspective.

The interface type must be compatible with the continua on either side of it, or STAR-CCM+ will report an error when the simulation is initialized. For instance, an internal interface may only be used between regions of the same continuum, and a contact interface may only be used between two solid continua or between a solid and a fluid continuum. Interfaces may also be used to model cyclic (periodic) repeats, conducting baffles and porous baffles.
