To select a variable type in a plot, simply click on its label in the plot display.
That will navigate the tree to the corresponding node.
For XY plots, this action will take you to the X Type or Y Type nodes. For other plots it will navigate to the corresponding node under the Axes node.
Clicking any other part of the plot display will navigate to the plot node itself.
