Bill of Materials for Routing Assemblies

When you create a bill of materials in a drawing of a route assembly, you can select a template that causes each unique cut length of pipe to be listed as a separate item. The template also assigns part numbers based on a configuration-specific property.

Otherwise, inserting and editing a BOM is the same as it is with other types of assembly drawings.

You can insert a table-based Bill of Materials or an Excel-based Bill of Materials in a drawing, but not both.

To create a table-based bill of materials for a route assembly:

  1. Select a drawing view that contains a route assembly, and click Bill of Materials (Table toolbar) or Insert, Tables, Bill of Materials.

  2. In the Bill of Materials PropertyManager, select a template under Table Template (bom-standard.sldbomtbt, for example), set other options as needed (Indented assemblies under BOM Type, for example), and click .

  3. If you did not select Attach to anchor, click in the graphics area to place the table.

To add a column to the bill of materials:

  1. Right-click in a column of the table and select Insert, Column Left or Column Right.

  2. In the Column PropertyManager:

    1. Select Custom Property under Column Properties.

    2. Select a custom property from the list (SWPipeLength, for example).

    3. Edit the column header under Title (PIPE LENGTH, for example).

    4. Click .

The column is populated with values of the selected custom property.

To create an Excel-based BOM for a route assembly:

  1. Select a drawing view that contains a route assembly, and click Excel Based Bill of Materials (Table toolbar) or Insert, Tables, Excel Based Bill of Materials.

  2. In the Select BOM Template dialog box, browse to <install_dir>\lang\<language>, and select Piping BOM Template.xls.

  3. Select options in the Bill of Materials Properties dialog box, then click OK.

The BOM includes special columns for piping assemblies:

If you edit the template in Excel, do not edit the text in the Name box for any of the default columns.

You can create custom columns in the Piping BOM Template. For example, you can create a column for the property SWElbowAngle (the angle of an elbow component).

See Bill of Materials - Custom Properties for more information.

Note also that there are hidden columns in the template; do not show, edit, or delete the hidden columns.
