For SolidWorks Toolbox components, you can add a custom property to any standard, category, type, or component. When you drag a component from the Toolbox library into an assembly, you can assign a value to this custom property.
An administrator can restrict modifications
to the custom properties data. Other users can view, but not modify, the
restricted data without the administrative password. See User Access Control.
Depending on the options you set, a unique configuration or part file might be created when you insert a component with a new custom property value into an assembly. For example, a unique configuration or part number are created for:
a 10mm bolt without the material custom property
a 10mm bolt with the material custom property assigned to brass
a 10mm bolt with the material custom property assigned to steel
It is recommended that you define custom
properties when your Toolbox library is new so all configurations and
part numbers include these properties.
To assign custom properties to SolidWorks Toolbox components:
Do one of the following:
Click Toolbox, Configure.
On the Design
Library
tab of the Task Pane, select
Toolbox in the upper
pane, right-click in the lower pane, and select Configure.
Click Tools, Options, Hole Wizard/Toolbox, Configure.
The Configure Data dialog box appears.
On the Properties tab, set the following options.
In the table, create a new custom property or edit an existing one. (Select an existing property by clicking the numbered cell to the left of its Property Name.)
Property Name. Type a name.
Type. Select one of the following:
Single Value. Assigns a single default value, which you can overwrite when you insert the component into an assembly. Type a value under Value.
Choice List. Creates a list of values, which appears when you insert the component into an assembly. Use Choice List to restrict the property to only the predefined values. Under Choice list definition, type a Value for each item on the list.
Options:
Add as configuration specific property. Adds the custom property name to the model's configuration specific properties. If cleared, the custom property is not added to the part.
Each value for this property requires a new configuration name (available when Create Configurations or Create Parts on Ctrl-Drag are selected on the Settings tab). Creates a new configuration name for each unique value of the property. For Single Value properties, the property value is added as a suffix to the configuration name. For Choice List properties, you set the suffix under Configuration Suffix.
Each value for this property requires a new Toolbox part file name (available when Create Parts is selected on the Settings tab). Creates a new file name for each unique value of the property. For Single Value properties, the property value is added as a suffix to the file name. For Choice List properties, you set the suffix under File Suffix.
Under Apply To, select the standard, category, type, or component listed in Standard / Components to which the property applies.
The selected item appears with a black check mark
indicating
it is selected. All items below it in the hierarchy are also selected.
All items above it in the hierarchy appear with a gray check mark
, indicating that one or more items below them are selected.
If you selected Single Value in Step 1, you can type a new value if you want to change the default value for the selected item.
If you selected Choice List in Step 1, you can do the following if you want to change the predefined list for the selected item:
Enabled. Select or clear to specify if this value is available for the selected item.
Default. Select one entry as the default value for the selected item.
When you drag a component from the Toolbox
library into an assembly, the custom properties you have defined appear
in the PropertyManager, where you can change the value for Single
Value properties or select from the predefined list for Choice
List properties.
