If you select <New Material Database>,
the Save As dialog box appears.
Type a name for the new database file, browse to a folder, and click Save. Material files have the extension
.sldmat. The General Information tab controls the following properties when you create or edit a material.
Select a material library:
SolidWorks Materials. A pre-defined library that contains SolidWorks materials. You cannot edit this library.
A custom material library.
<New Material Database>. Creates a new material database. You must create a new material database to create or edit a material.
If you select <New Material Database>,

Displays the material classes in your custom material databases. Type a class such as Steel, Iron, Aluminum Alloys, and so on.
Displays the material names in your custom material databases. Type a specific material such as Chrome Stainless, Malleable Cast Iron, 1345 Alloy, and so on.
