Cut Hole with Decal

You can simulate a cut in a model by forcing a face on which you apply a decal to become transparent.

To simulate a cut with a decal:

Consider a wall that you want to cut through with a decal. You apply a decal to the front of the wall but you cannot see through because the back of the wall is blocking your view. Use the Delete Face tool to remove the back of the wall. This changes the wall from a solid body to a surface body.

Perform this step first. When you delete the face and the model changes to a surface body, you may lose material and decal definitions.

Consider the example of a hollow box. It is rendered with a blue plastic material on the front face, a green plastic material on the inside faces, and a decal applied to the front face.

Delete the inside face of the front wall of the box. The image does not change because you have not modified the visibility of the outside wall or decal.

Set the illumination properties of the blue plastic material to Cut Hole with Decal. The inside green walls can barely be seen because the decal is opaque.

Make the decal transparent. The inside green walls are now visible.
