Define Layers

The Define Layers tab in the SolidWorks to DXF/DWG Mapping dialog box displays the previously mapped layers. You can add or delete layers for your mapping file. Layers 0 and DEFPOINTS are fixed layers; you cannot edit or delete them.

You can select the Keep existing SolidWorks drawing layers for entities option, which applies the map file settings only to those entities whose layers are not otherwise defined. All existing layers in the SolidWorks drawing file are preserved in the exported file.

If you do not select this option, the mapping file definitions overwrite all the current SolidWorks drawing file layers.

To add a layer:

  1. In the SolidWorks to DXF/DWG Mapping dialog box, click Add.

  1. In the Add New Layer Definition dialog box, type a name for the new layer in the Layer box.

  2. Select an item from the DXF Colors list, the Line Style list, or both, then click OK.

The Define Layers tab displays the new layer.

If you did not select a color or a line style, Unspecified appears in the Define Layers tab. Unspecified means that no mapping exists for that characteristic of the entity on the layer.

To edit a layer:

  1. Select the layer in the Define Layers tab, then click Edit.

The Edit Layer Definition dialog box appears.

  1. In the Edit Layer Definition dialog box, edit the items, then click OK.

To delete a layer:

Select the layer in the Define Layers tab, then click Delete.

If a layer is referenced in one or more entity mappings, you cannot delete the layer.
