Applying Restraints

On the Restraint tab, you define restraints. Each restraint can contain multiple faces. The restrained faces are constrained in all directions. You must at least restrain one face of the part to avoid analysis failure due to rigid body motion.

To apply restraints to the model:

  1. Click Next to continue.

  2. Type a name for the restraint or accept the default name.

We recommend that you use meaningful names for the restraints.

  1. In the graphics area, click the faces that you want to restrain.

  2. Click Next.

A check mark appears on the Restraint tab and a list of the restraints appears.

Click the appropriate button to Add, Edit, or Delete a restraint.

  1. Click Next.

    The Load tab appears.

What More Can I Do With COSMOSWorks?

In COSMOSWorks, you could do the following:

  • Apply restraints to edges and vertices.

  • Prevent the motion of selected entities in any desired direction.

  • Specify a zero (no movement), or a prescribed value of displacement in any direction.

  • Specify symmetry conditions. This option allows you to exploit symmetry by analyzing a portion of the model only.

  • Specify a sliding condition where a planar or non-planar face can slide but cannot move in the normal direction.
