Assigning Materials from a Material Library

The following procedure is used to assign materials to solid components or shells of your model using an existing material library file (*.lib), a SolidWorks material library file (solidworks materials.sldmat), or any user-defined library file (*.sldmat). The software comes with its own material library (COSMOS Materials.sldmat) that covers a wide range of materials of interest to engineering applications.

To assign a material from an existing material library file:

  1. In theCOSMOS AnalysisManager tree, right-click the icon of the desired body in the Solids, Shells, or Beams folder of a study and select Apply/Edit Material.

The Material dialog box appears.

  1. Under Select material source, do the following:

    1. Click From library files.

All library files in the Material library folder specified in System Options, Default library  appear in the list.

    1. Select the desired material library file.

    2. Select a material from the material tree.

  1. Click OK.

To create a new material library or edit an existing material library, you can also access the Material editor by right-clicking the top document icon and selecting Create/Edit material library.
