Large displacement. When this option is checked, the program uses nonlinear large displacement formulation to solve the problem. A nonlinear solution takes more time and resources than a linear solution but gives more accurate solution. Large displacement formulation is used by default. Large displacement formulation is automatically used when a nonlinear (von Mises) material model is used in the model even if this option is not checked.
The displacement meant here
refers to the flexural displacement incurred by the body. It does not
include the rigid body motion.
To specify linear/nonlinear solution:
In the COSMOS AnalysisManager tree, right-click the study icon and select Properties.
The Drop Test dialog box appears.
You can:
Clear the Large displacement option to specify a linear solution (small displacement).
-or-
Check Large displacement to specify a nonlinear solution.
