The program defines contact conditions between the body and the impact plane automatically. You can define contact conditions between faces of different components in an assembly. For global and component contact conditions, only Free (No interaction) and Bonded (No clearance) are allowed. For local contact sets, the No penetration contact option is available in addition to the Free (No interaction) and Bonded (No clearance) options.
The study does not allow assembly components to detach from each other during or after impact. However, you may be able to assess this possibility based on stress results and contact forces. A disjointed body travels in the direction of gravity until it comes into contact with the impact plane or a No penetration contact condition gets activated.
Node-to-Node contact is not allowed in drop
test studies.
You can specify a coefficient of friction between the body and the impact plane and for contact sets with the No Penetration contact condition option.
Loss of energy occurs due to friction, damping, or plastic deformation (for von Mises plasticity materials). Damping is not considered. If all materials are linear elastic and the coefficient of friction is set to zero, the impact causes no loss of energy and the model keeps bouncing indefinitely.
