Creating Bushings

A bushing is an object that defines a force acting in all three directions. You can also define a torsional force for the bushing, which allows constraints, such as joints, to be replaced by a force-based object.

To create a bushing:

  1. Display the Bushing dialog box using one of the following methods:

  1. If not already selected, select the Definitions tab.

  2. Select the components to which the bushing is attached.

  3. To define the point at which the bushing is attached, in the Select Location text box, enter a vertex, circular edge, or linear edge on the first component you selected.

The entity and component name appears in the Entity/Component text box.

  4. To define the orientation of the bushing, select a face or edge to define the z-axis and x-axis of the bushing.

  5. Modify the default translational stiffness, damping and preload (force).

  6. Optionally, clear the selection of Isotropic to specify different properties in different directions. For example, a bushing mount for a suspension arm has different properties in the z-axis than the x-axis and y-axis.

  7. Optionally, modify the default torsional stiffness, damping, and preload (force).

  8. Select Apply to create the bushing and close the dialog box.
