Defining Material Boundaries

This option defines the boundaries of the stock material used for the CAM-Part.

  1. Click on the Material boundary button.

The Material boundary dialog box will be displayed.

  2. Choose the appropriate option and click on the Define button.

Value

The Boundary (Value) dialog box is displayed and you are prompted to enter the Material Boundaries values. The values should be entered relative to the Coordinate System of the CAM-Part:

The Show button displays the defined material boundaries.

2D Boundary

The Boundary (2D) dialog box will be displayed. This dialog box contains the following options:

This option enables you to define a new chain for the Material boundary. The Chain Options dialog box will be displayed.

This option enables you to define a new chain for the Material boundary instead of existing one. The existing chain will be removed and the Chain Options dialog box will be displayed to define a new chain.

This option enables you to edit the Material Boundary chain with the Chain Options dialog box.

If a single entity is chosen (with the Curve option selected), then perpendiculars are dropped automatically from the end points of the entity to the axis of rotation in order to define the material boundary.

3D Model

This option enables you to define the Material boundary by selecting a 3D Model. SolidCAM automatically generates a sketch containing the envelope of the Selected solid body. The Material boundary will be automatically defined in this sketch.

Envelope

This function creates the envelope line of the specified solid bodies. Consider the revolution body surrounding the specified solid bodies. The section of this revolution body by ZX-plane of the Turning Machine CoordSys is the envelope; this envelope is a profile of the part that has to be turned in order to create the model geometry.

The Envelope takes into account all the external model faces as well as the internal faces.

The Boundary (3D) dialog box enables you to select the solid model.

Cylinder

This option enables you to define the Material boundary as a cylinder (or tube) surrounding the selected Solid model. SolidCAM generates a sketch containing the envelope of the cylinder (or tube) surrounding the selected solid body. The Material boundary will be automatically defined in this sketch.

When the Cylinder option is chosen, the Boundary (Cylinder) dialog box will be displayed. This dialog box enables you to select the solid bodies for the definition of the cylindrical material boundary.

Offsets

This dialog box enables you to define offsets of the cylinder (tube) faces from the selected solid body. The Right Offset (+Z) and Left Offset (-Z) parameters enable you to define offsets of the front and back faces. The External Offset parameter defines the offset of the external face of the cylinder from the external face of the solid body.

The Internal diameter parameter defines the internal diameter of the tube. When the Internal diameter value is equal to 0, a cylindrical material boundary will be defined.

SolidCAM generates the material boundary as an Autodesk Inventor sketch, so that you can use it to create additional sketches, e.g. those of clamps.

Click on the Add to CAD Model button.

A new sketch named Stock will be created in the CAM component of the CAM-Part assembly.

This sketch is located on the XZ-plane of the actual Coordinate System and contains the material boundary.
