Importing and Exporting User Data
You can import and export user data using the dotXSI file format. In addition, you can import scenes and models containing user data from SOFTIMAGE|3D.
dotXSI and SOFTIMAGE|3D support only binary user data, so there is no associated template in XSI after you import. This means that you cannot manipulate the binary user data interactively. However, you can manipulate binary data using plug-ins or scripts, or you can attach a template by setting the UserDataMap.Template property. See the SDK Guides for more details.
Exporting User Data to dotXSI Format
You can export a selected object or scene containing user data to dotXSI format as described in Exporting to dotXSI in the Data Management guide. The important thing to remember is to set the dotXSI File Version to 3.6 or later. User data is not supported in version 3.5 or earlier of the dotXSI format.
Importing User Data from dotXSI Format
When you import a dotXSI file into XSI, any user data is automatically included. For more information, about importing dotXSI files in general, see Importing dotXSI Files in the Data Management guide.
Importing User Data from SOFTIMAGE|3D
When you import a SOFTIMAGE|3D scene (.dsc file) or model (.hrc file) into XSI, any user data on components is automatically included.
