Use this procedure to create an isometric drawing of a line number using ISOGEN.
Ř Important: Before you try to create an isometric drawing of a line number, complete all connections in the design drawing. You cannot create a correct isometric drawing of an incomplete line.
You do not need to check out a design to create an isometric drawing of it. However, if you create an isometric drawing then determine that you want to make changes to the design, you must check out the design.
Components from the Shared Components library do not appear in isometric drawings.
The 3DSMART Isometric Generation dialog box will appear once you use one of four ways to start ISOGEN:
In
the ISOGEN tab
of the toolbox, click the Activate ISOGEN
button.
![]()
In the Project menu, click on Isometric Generation.
In the Design menu, click Isometric Generation, which will be enabled when the design is opened and checked out.
In the Project Manager window, right click on the project you will be using, and select Isometric Generation.
Step 1 of 3 of the Isometric Generation Wizard appears.

5. Using the Project’s control, click the project that contains the design you want to use, and choose the project line to be generated.
6.
Click Next. The ISOGEN styles and options
dialog box appears.

7. Select an ISOGEN Styles option using the radio buttons available:

8. Select the line options you want, as well as the desired Dimension Offset Tolerance. Tolerance more than 1000 is not recommended and the text will be displayed in red.
9. Click Next.
The Generation process will occur and query the information from a database. A “Finalizing Generation” dialog box appears briefly. The cancel button will be enabled after a 20 second delay if there is a problem with the Generation and it is not responding.
If there are any errors during the Generation process, the Message button will become available. Clicking this button will display the errors and warnings that occurred.
10. A dialog box appears with the Output Status (which will turn red if there is an error), a list of output files for the line, and a Messages button to view the ISOGEN report.

11. Do one of the following:
Click Back to return to previous step(s) to repeat generation with other option(s) or generate with another line.
Click Finish or Cancel to close the dialog box and return to the 3DSMART session.
Click Finish to complete and close ISOGEN dialog. Use View Output Files check box to view selected Output files in the current AutoCAD session.
Ř Important: When you create an ISOGEN drawing, the system automatically creates an ISOGEN sub-folder in the project directory. It creates a sub-folder for the drawing type (Check, or Final Basic etc.). The drawing file is saved as a .dxf file in the appropriate subfolder.
