Creating a Bill of Material

A Bill of Material (BOM) is an itemized list of all components or a selected group of components (a line number for example) in a drawing.

The project administrator using the manager application BOM Settings Manager creates Bill of Material templates. These templates define the organization and appearance of the BOM. BOM templates are assigned to projects using BOM Settings Manager.

The BOM Generator command allows you to select content to include in the BOM (the project, the design(s), or the Line (tag) number).

You can also select the type of output you require. Current options include:

To create a Bill of Material....

1.    In AutoCAD, switch to Paper Space.

Ø      Note: You can also access this dialog box using the BOM Generator icon in your 3DSMART folder.

2.    In the Bill of Material tab, use the BOM Generator command. This can be found using one of the following methods:

If you are starting in the standalone BOM Generator application from the BOM Generator icon in your 3DSMART folder, the BOM Login dialog box appears.

 

3.    The Login dialog box is available for Business Editions that have a security level higher than “No Security”.

The current version of 3DSMART uses the following levels:

4.        Enter the Username and Password.

5.        Do one of the following:

a.    Click OK to verify the username and password and become logged into the BOM Generator.

b.   Click Cancel to exit the dialog box without logging into the BOM Generator.

 

Step 1 of 3 of the BOM Generator Wizard appears.

 

6.    Select the filtering method and options to display the BOM content.

Ø      Note: You can use the Filter by Line or Filter by Design check boxes to select BOM information for single or multiple designs or lines.

You can use the Filter by Library check box and available Library lists to select components from the specified libraries only.

7.    Click Next.

 

Step 2 of 3 of the BOM Generator Wizard appears.

Depending on selected options from the previous step (the entire project, by design, or by line), the dialog box’s controls layout is different for Step 2 of 3. For generating by design, and filtering by line, this is what the dialog box will look like.

8.    Select the Project, Design(s), and Line(s), if applicable, you want to use for the BOM generation.

9.    Click Next.

       Step 3 of 3 of the BOM Generator Wizard appears.

 

10.  Select the BOM settings you want to use. Double-click to view or edit a setting.

       You can right-click in the BOM settings list box to either open the BOM Settings Manager, or to Refresh the settings.

11.  Choose the Output format you want the BOM to be displayed in.

12.  Click Finish.

       A preview of the BOM is displayed.

13.  Close the preview to access the Save As dialog box.

   

14.  Select a location to save the BOM output.

15.  Click Save to store the BOM in the specified location.
