Used to load data from an External data source, e.g. a database, on import.  

The properties External Data Configuration, and External Data on Import on the Project defaults dialogue need to be set lo allow the external data to be loaded on import.

The External data source also needs to be defined, and an XML configuration file, which defines the external data.
