Surface >> Create >> Polygon Fit >> By Loops
Surface >> Create >> Polygon Fit >> By Loops command creates surfaces with the loops drawn on a polygonal model.
It is possible to create more than two surfaces at once.
Step
- Execute Surface >> Create >> Polygon Fit >> By Loops command as follows:
- 1. Select loops to be used as boundaries of a surface. Be sure that directions of all the loops are counterclockwise.
- 2. Select Surface >> Create >> Polygon Fit >> By Loops from the menu or click the corresponding icon from the Surface1 toolbar.
- 3. Push Done on the right mouse popup menu.

If user selects Loop, which is connected surface already, RapidForm shows following message.

- 4. The following dialog box appears.

- Interior Accuracy option controls the quality of interior region of the surface to be generated while Boundary Accuracy option controls the quality of boundary region.
- Control Points can reside in bi-direction, U-direction and V-direction. U-direction is determined based on the order of user’s selection. That is, U-direction is determined by the direction of the first picked curve.
- The number of meshes in the U-direction is [No. of U Control points – 3].
- If a user input No. of Total Control points, the surface is generated through automatically determining the No. of Control Points in the U-direction and V-direction.
- Surface Type can be broken down into Untrimmed Surface and Trimmed Surface. The former is for 4-curve-boundary surface and the latter is for 2, 3, and over 5–curve-boundary surface.
- Loop Options is active only in the By Loop command.
- Change UV can swap UV axis so that the number of U control points is exchanged with the number of V control points.
- Use Loop Data means using the data saved in the loops. If a loop is connected to a surface before, the loop has number of control points and surface type. If not, Rapidform uses dialog-specified options as default.
- Resample Polygon can be applied only to the Untrimmed Surface. If you check Resample Polygon option, you can get the surface whose quality in the interior and boundary region is better than the one in unchecked case. Also it is useful for creating a surface quickly in case more than ten thousand polygon mesh contained.
- Quick Surfacing can be applied only to the Untrimmed Surface. This option is recommended to create surface quickly while it represents well the geometry information comparing to the quality of surface in case there are many control points.
- G1 continuity means the tangency agreement with adjacent surfaces. Thus, if you check the Satisfy G1 continuity option in the dialog box, the generated surface is smoothly connected with its adjacent surfaces.
- If you check Show Error Map option in the dialog box, RapidForm shows the distance map between the original polygon and the surface to be generated.
- If you push the Preview button, the result is shown before executing this command. If the preview result is unsatisfied, try again after changing options.
If polygon or loop is not proper to generate surface, The application shows a following message.
- During changing the options, viewpoint can be changed.
- 5. Press OK to complete this operation if the preview result is satisfied.

Note
Created surfaces are all connected to the loops.
Created surfaces are all attached to the shell.
