Tool >> Engrave >> Engrave Image
The Engrave Image operation lets you engrave or emboss a 2D image on a polygonal object. To engrave image on a polygonal surface, a NURBS patch is needed. So a surface patch should be made before engraving. The initial orientation of the 2D image is parallel to the U-direction of the surface and vertical to the V-direction. The surface may be attached or not attached to a polygonal object. In case of unattached surface, engraving generates a new shell resembled the image.
Step
- Execute Tool >> Engrave >> Engrave Image command as follows:
- 1. Select Tool >> Engrave >> Engrave Image from the menu or click the corresponding icon from the polygon Tool2 toolbar.
- 2. Select a surface, the following popup menu appears.
- 3. Click the button in the right side of the File Name box in order to open a 2D image.
- 4. Click Rotate and Flip button to adjust the image orientation and move the slide bars of U-Scale and V-Scale to scale the image.
- Max. Height is the height of the black bounding box in the positive normal direction of the surface. A positive value raises the image on the polygon.
- Min. Height is the height of the white bounding box in the negative normal direction of the surface. A negative value engraves the image on the polygon.
- 5. Click the Blending Curve button to adjust the height balance of the gray image. Drag control points on the curve to adjust it
- On the dialog box, the horizontal axis of the graph represents the color of gray image; the vertical axis represents the user-defined height of image to be engraved or embossed.
- Click the Load button to load a saved blending curve graph.
- Click the Save button to save the current blending curve graph.
- Click the Reset button to return to the initial blending curve graph.
- Tessellation option is used for the degree of triangulation quality in case that Make Individual Shell is checked.
- Engrave Image on the Attached Shell option, selected by default, is used for creating a merged shell engraved the image on the original polygon.
- Make Individual Shell option is used for creating a new shell resembled the image, in case the selected surface is not attached to the polygon.
- Smooth option makes a engraved shell smooth after engraving.
- 6. Click Preview button to check the vertices to be generated from the image.
- 7. Click OK to complete the engraving.
