Tool >> Fill Holes >> Surface
-
Tool >> Fill Holes >> Surface
command automatically fills holes in a selected shell or a selected region.
-
A
hole means a closed path formed by boundary edges; it is automatically
detected by the program.
-
Tool >> Fill Holes >> Surface
command can be applied to both a selected shell and a selected region.
Step
- Execute Tool >> Fill
Holes >> Surface command as follows:
-
1. Select
Tool >> Fill Holes >> Surface from the menu or click the
corresponding icon from the polygon
Tool1 toolbar.
- 2.
All the boundaries of the selected shell or region appear on the model like
shown below.

- 3.
Select holes with mouse then select Done on RMB menu.
If a user wants to fill all the holes, click the right mouse
button and select All
on the following popup menu.
-

-
Bridge Hole options bridge two edges on the
same boundary of the hole when
the hole is too large or complex. You can select Curvature or
Flat
as bridge type.
-
Click
Next >> button in the following dialog box to search holes.
-

- 4. The following dialog box
appears after you pick a hole.
- When Flat method
is checked, the selected hole is filled with a flat face.
- When Smooth
method is checked, faces used to fill holes are generated as
continuous as possible to the surrounding
shape of the hole.
-
The
Curvature option is a
curvature based filling
method that ensures the
polygonal structure used to fill holes in
curved
regions is curved to
match the surrounding area.
- Check Smooth hole
boundaries before filling option to smooth edges around holes
before filling.
- Check Except the
Biggest Hole option in order not to fill the biggest hole on the
model.
- Check Small Hole
Only option to fill only the hole whose
boundary edge count is fewer than a given number.
- 5. Press
OK button to complete the command.
Note
- A hole may not be filled in the following cases:.
|
(a) The hole is too large.
(b) The boundary shape around the hole is
too complex.
(c) There are geometrically or
topologically abnormal faces around the hole.
|
- In these cases, try to
fill the hole after checking Smooth hole boundaries before
filling, remove / add faces around the hole, or apply
Clean
tools.
-
Sometimes, certain holes may not
be filled even though their boundaries seem not bad or do not contain
abnormal faces. In this case, execute
Information >> Vertex and verify each boundary vertex of holes.
Find and delete strange vertices, then execute Tool >> Fill Holes
>> Surface command once more.
- This command is texture preserve command. So if user don't have Color
workbench license, Rapidform shows a below message.

If user select OK, texture will be removed after execution, If
Cancel, execution will be canceled.
