Measure >> Environment Mapping
Measure >> Environment Mapping command executes environment mapping to evaluate the face quality on a polygonal model.
The mapping is better if you check the "High Quality Normal" option in File > Preferences and turn on "Smooth Shading Mode" icon in the View toolbar.
Step
Execute Measure >> Environment Mapping command as follows:
1. Select Measure >> Environment Mapping from the menu or click the icon from the Measure toolbar.
2. Select a map type from the dialog box.
A sphere map is a single texture of a perfectly reflecting sphere in the environment where the viewer is infinitely far from the sphere. However, Cube Maps are made up of 6 square textures of the same size, representing a cube centered at the origin. Each cube face represents a set of directions along each major axis: +X, -X, +Y, -Y, +Z, -Z). Unlike the sphere mapping, the cube environment mapping allows for accurate reflections without straining.
Modulate Texture Map option modulates texture to shell material.
3. Press the RMB to choose different maps. In case of Sphere, there are 8 maps: Fluorescent Tube, True Sphere, Sunset, Cafe, Polished Gold, Polished Silver, Brushed Gold, Brushed Silver. In case of Cube, there are 6 maps: Tunnel, Street, Mars, Uffizi Cross, Earth, Chaberton and Custom map. Six BMP files are needed to select custom map and six square-shaped images must be same size. File names are composed of “map’s name – face’s direction.bmp,” and the face’s directions are front, back, left, right, top, and bottom. For example, “Tunnel – left.bmp” is saved. If user selects one of 6 files, the rest of 5 files are loaded automatically.
- 4. Select one of the maps and evaluate the face quality using the pattern reflected on the polygonal model.
