Clean >> Delete Spikes

• Clean >> Delete Spikes command searches spike faces and enables users to select or remove them.

• The definition of a spike face can be configured optionally in the dialog box.

Step   

Execute Clean >> Delete Spikes command as follows:

1. Select Clean >> Delete Spikes from the menu or the icon from the Clean toolbar.

2. Select desired shells and Done on RMB menu. To select entire shells, select All on RMB menu. ( See Shell selection )

3. The following dialog box appears.

Maximum edge length is larger than field specifies the length of the longest edge of a face. A face with an edge longer than that is considered as a spike.

Area is larger than field specifies the area of a face. A face with area value larger than that is considered as a spike.

Max / Min edge length ratio is larger than field specifies the ratio of the longest edge to the shortest edge of a face. A face with a bigger value between the longest and the shortest edge is considered as a spike like the following figure.



Max edge length / Max. height ratio is larger than field specifies the ratio of the longest edge to the maximum height of a face. A face with a bigger value is considered as a spike.



Deviation (angle) from plane is larger than field specifies breakaway degree from a plane at a vertex of a face. A face with a bigger value is considered as a spike. It is calculated as ( 360 - sum of angles between edges of faces surrounding the vertex of spike face ) degree.

Any face satisfying one of these conditions are subject to selecting or deleting.

4. Press Select button to select spike faces or Delete button to delete them.

Result

• Use both of Max / Min edge length ratio is larger than and Max edge length / Max. height ratio is larger than at the same time to select/delete two kinds of spikes as shown in the following figure.

• A result example by checking Deviation (angle) from plane is larger than option is shown below.
