The Wrap menu appears only after a Points > Wrap operation and only when the Wrap Type was Volume. This Wrap menu contains tools to improve the results of a volume wrap operation, and remains in the menu bar as long as the volume-wrapped object is the currently selected object in the Model Manager. To move a volume-wrapped object up to full polygon phase, use Edit > Phase > Polygon Phase or click the Polygon Phase icon. (The transition from Wrap to Polygon phase is irreversible.)
Volume wrap is the conversion of a point object to a polygon object, with compensation for sparse point data by creating excessive polygons (even between points where no surface is intended). The visible effect is usually a number of internal webs (spurious polygons). Cleanup of a volume-wrapped object is required because the spurious polygons would adversely affect subsequent phases of operation.
Fine Tune
- is a mode that can be activated,
not a function per se. In fine-tune mode, triangles can be manipulated
“manually” (as opposed to the automatic triangulation by Points
> Wrap).
Fine Tune mode disables Push
Deep and enables the Fill functions. The application
cannot perform Push Deep after any Fill operations have been performed,
so the user must activate this mode to signal that all Push Deep is complete.
Transition to this mode is irreversible.
Push Shallow
- removes triangles and tetrahedra (offending “pyramids”) by propagating
through the surface in a selected area.
Push Deep - removes triangles
and tetrahedra (offending “pyramids”) similar to Push
Shallow, but propagates further into the model.
Remove Webs - removes
spurious polygons that are generated in open spaces after a volume-wrap.
Shoot Through
- drills a narrow hole through the model.
Fill - Three variants of Wrap > Fill allow you to edit the polygon object’s surface by filling in regions of the object and increasing its volume. Before attempting the Fill functions, activate Fine Tune mode.
