Wizards > Points To Polygons guides the user through the cleanup of a point object and its conversion to a polygon object.
This function is available when one or more point objects are selected in the Model Manager. If two or more are selected, all must be of the same type (unordered, ordered, or line scan). The Points To Polygons wizard appears in the Wizard Tile on the left side of the application window.
Step 1: “Points to Polygons”
Click a radio button corresponding to the type of point data that exists.
Unordered Data radio button - When you press Next, the wizard takes you to Step 2.
Line Scan Data radio button - When you press Next:
the application increases its default density for Points > Uniform Sample so that subsequent invocation will yield a more dense point cloud.
the wizard skips to “Select Disconnected Points”.
Ordered Data radio button - When you press Next, the wizard take you to the next step.
Next button - The wizard takes you to the next step.
Cancel button - terminates the wizard.
Step: “Merge”
Merge icon - If necessary, click to activate Points > Merge. Click OK in the dialog to return to the wizard. The job is complete.
OK button - terminates the wizard.
Step: “Select Disconnected Points”
Select Disconnected icon - If necessary, click to activate Edit > Select > Disconnected Components. Click OK in the dialog to return to the wizard.
Next button - The wizard takes you to the next step.
Cancel button - terminates the wizard.
Step: “Remove Disconnected Points”
Erase icon - If necessary, click to remove the disconnected points that were selected in the previous step.
Next button - The wizard takes you to the next step.
Cancel button - terminates the wizard.
Step: “Select Outliers”
Erase icon - If necessary, click to activate Edit > Select > Outliers. Click OK in the dialog to return to the wizard.
Next button - The wizard takes you to the next step.
Cancel button - terminates the wizard.
Step: “Remove Outliers”
Erase icon - If necessary, click to remove the outliers that were selected in the previous step.
Next button - The wizard takes you to the next step.
Cancel button - terminates the wizard.
Step: “Save the Model”
Save icon - Click to save the model to a disk file so it can reloaded in a later step if necessary.
Next button - The wizard takes you to the next step.
Cancel button - terminates the wizard.
Step: “Uniform Sample”
Uniform Sample icon - If necessary, click to activate Points > Uniform Sample. Click OK in the dialog to return to the wizard.
Next button - The wizard takes you to the next step.
Cancel button - terminates the wizard.
Step: “Wrap”
Surface Wrap icon - Click to activate Points > Wrap. Perform a surface wrap by clicking OK in the dialog. Control is returned to the wizard.
Next button - The wizard takes you to the next step.
Cancel button - terminates the wizard.
Step: “Visual Inspection”
The model looks fine radio button - When you press Next, the wizard terminates. The job is complete.
The model needs more work radio button - When you press Next, the wizard takes you to the next step.
Next button - The wizard usually takes you to the next step. If the next two steps have already been performed twice without success, Next takes you three steps forward to “Relax Polygons”.
Cancel button - terminates the wizard.
Step: “Restore Model”
File Open icon - Improvement is necessary, so click this icon to activate File > Open. Reload the model that was saved in Step 6.
Next button - The wizard takes you to the next step.
OK button - terminates the wizard.
Step: “Reduce Noise”
Noise Reduction icon - Click to activate Points > Reduce Noise. Click OK in the dialog to return to the wizard.
Next button - The wizard takes you back to the “Uniform Sample” step.
Cancel button - terminates the wizard.
Step: “Relax Polygons”
You have reached this step because “Restore Model” and “Reduce Noise” were performed twice, but insufficiently.
Relax Polygons icon - Click to activate Polygons > Relax. Click OK in the dialog to return to the wizard.
