Tools > Alignment > To World aligns datums or features of a selected object to planes, axes, or the origin of the World object, or to datums that may have been copied to the World object.
The selected object must have at least one datum or feature.
Inputs group -
Fixed list - a list of intrinsic datums of the World object (X, Y, and Z axes, XY, YZ, and XZ planes, and the origin), plus any datums that may have been copied to the World object by means of Tools > Datums > Copy Datums.
Float list - a list of the datums or features found in the “float” object (the object that was active in the model manager when this function was started).
Create
Pair button - designates the highlighted datum in the Fixed list
as a match to the highlighted datum or feature in the Float list, then
performs alignment with respect to that pair. The Viewing Area has three
panels: a panel to show datums and features on the Fixed
(World) object, a panel to show datums and features on the Float
object, and an Aligned panel that
indicates their current relative positions in space.
The pairs that can be created are:
“Like Datums,”
Plane datum of the Float <> Plane datum of the Fixed,
Axis datum of the Float <> Axis datum of the Float,
Point datum of the Float <> Point datum of the Fixed.
Line feature of the Float <> Axis datum of the Fixed
Circle | Slot | Rectangle | RoundedRectangle feature of the Float <> Plane | Axis | Point datum of the Fixed, because those features all have a plane, axis, and center point.
Pairs group -
List of Pairs - is a list of the associations (whether the result of the Auto button or the Create Pair button). Pairs appear in the list in the order they were created, which is the alignment priority (except that pairs of target datums always appear at the bottom of the list). The higher the priority, the more perfect the alignment of a given pair.
Up and Down arrows - moves the highlighted pair higher or lower in the list. (Target datums always stay at the bottom of the list).
Flip Plane button - reverses the normal direction of the datum or feature on the Float object.
Flip Axis button - (if the datum or feature has an axis) reverses the normal direction of the axis on the Float object.
Delete button - deletes the highlighted pair from the List of Pairs.
Use Feature Plane checkbox - whether to align the plane of the chosen feature of the Float.
Use Feature Axis checkbox - whether to align the axis of the chosen feature of the Float.
Statistics group -
Status indicator - indicates whether the two objects are fully or partially constrained (based on the number and position of datums or features used in the alignment).
Rotation indicator - indicates the degree of rotational constraint.
Translation indicator - indicates the degree of translational constraint.
OK button - re-aligns the Float object to planes, axes, origin, or datums of the World, and closes the dialog.
Cancel button - terminates the dialog without re-aligning the Float object to the World.
