Tools > Alignment > To Object moves an “active” (movable) object into alignment with a “target” (fixed) object, one plane at a time. The goal is to define a plane by three points on the active object, define the corresponding plane by three points on the target object, click Apply to align on that plane, and repeat the process until objects are fully aligned.
The controls are:
Active Object group
Enabled checkbox - specifies that you are in the process of clicking three points on the “active” object (the object that was selected in the Model Manager).
First Point radio button - the next click is the first of three clicks.
Second Point radio button - the next click is the second of three clicks.
Third Point radio button - the next click is the third of three clicks.
Target Object group
Enabled checkbox - specifies that you are in the process of clicking three points on the “target” object.
First Point radio button - the next click is the first of three clicks.
Second Point radio button - the next click is the second of three clicks.
Third Point radio button - the next click is the third of three clicks.
OK button - saves changes to the “active” object in the Model Manager and closes the dialog.
Cancel button - closes the dialog without reorienting the “active” object.
Apply button - aligns the “active” object by performing a best-fit alignment on the three points.
To use this function:
Select an object in the Model Manager that will be the “active” object.
Click View > Objects > Show All (or press Alt-9).
Click Tools > Alignment > To Object.
The Active Enabled checkbox is already checked. The “active” object is the object that was selected in the Model Manager. Click any three points on the “active” object.
Check the Target Enabled checkbox. The target object is any visible object one which you begin to click. Click three points on the “target” that correspond to the three points on the “active.”
Click Apply.
Until the objects are sufficiently aligned, continue to cycle of clicking triplets on the “active” and “target” objects and clicking Apply.
Click OK to terminate the dialog and save the new position of the “active” object.
