Registration

Registration is the process of aligning two or more scans that represent dif­ferent portions of the same physical object. While the registration commands are typically used in Point Phase, they are also available to align polygon objects.

If one of several scans is already considered to be in the correct position in space, prepare for registration by pinning it. Right-click its name in the Model Manager, then left-click Pin in the pop-up menu. This action declares that the scan shall remain fixed and others shall move in space to become aligned with it.

• Tools > Registration > Identify Groups - reorganizes point objects in the Model Manager into sets that can be more easily pro­cessed by Tools > Registration > Global Registration.

• Tools > Registration > Manual Registration - makes adjustments to the spacial position of scans based on user-defined pairs of corresponding points from each object.

• Tools > Registration > Global Registration - makes auto­matic adjustments to the spacial position of two scans on the basis of all points.

• Tools > Registration > Detect Sphere Targets - detects tooling ball centers on point or polygon objects in preparation for Tools > Registration > Target Registration.

• Tools > Registration > Target Registration - registers two or more point objects or two or more polygon objects based on the tar­gets that were found by Tools > Registration > Detect Sphere Targets.
