Many functions require that a plane be superimposed on the object. This section describes the several methods of superimposing (“aligning”) a plane to an object. All methods are not available in all situations.
Pick a method from the Align Plane dropdown menu.
If the method is:
Pick Boundary - Click on a boundary on the model.
Three Points - Using the mouse, select three points on the model. The dialog shows which point is being chosen To change the nth Point, click on nth Point. Click to re-select the point..
Line - Use the mouse to click one end of a line, drag to the other end of the line, and release. A plane is created on the new line.
XY, XZ, or YZ or X-Direction, Y-Direction, or Z-DirectionPlane - To change the up/down and back/forth settings, use the dial, or enter a value and press Enter.
Object Datum Plane - Select a previously created datum from the list, or click on a datum in the Viewing Area.
3D Plane Feature - Select a previously created 3-Dimensional Plane Feature from the list, or click on 3D Feature Plane in the Viewing Area.
World Datum Plane - Select the name of any plane that you previously copied to the World (if any).
Feature - Click on a Feature in the Viewing Areal. The plane aligns with the chosen Feature.
To change the Position of the plane slightly (or to "Offset" it), modify the value by entering a new number and pressing Enter, or simply by clicking and dragging it up or down.
Note: The value in the Position or Offset box may be a distance (shown with a unit) or a percent of the bounding box (shown without a unit).
