An ideal point object is a point cloud whose imperfect constructs have been deleted and replaced by mathematically perfect geometric shapes. Several categories of functions support the creation of ideal point objects.
Points > Detect - A set of functions that detect the presence of geometric shapes in a point cloud.
Points > Detect > Planes
Points > Detect > Cylinders
Points > Capture - A set of functions that convert detected shapes into complete objects in the Model Manager.
Points > Capture > Plane
Points > Capture > Cylinder
Points > Create - a pair of functions that create a plane object or a cylinder object that fits a selected set of points.
Points > Create > Plane
Points > Create > Cylinder
Points > Fit - This group forces a selected shape into a mathematically perfect shape.
• Points > Fit > Plane
• Points > Fit > Cylinder
To generate an ideal point object:
Use Points > Detect to find regions of a point object where imperfect planes, cylinders, or spheres exist.
Use Points > Fit to force them to be perfect.
or
Use Points > Detect to find regions of a point object where imperfect planes or cylinders exist.
Use Points > Capture to find the full extent of the detected shapes and create separate objects that represent them in the Model Manager.
Move the separate objects to a CAD system and import them onto an otherwise clean model, and create a super-clean model.
