Polygons > Section by Curve creates a three dimensional section of a polygon object by slicing it with a two-dimensional curve. For example, a curve shaped like a circle could be used to slice a cylinder from a cube. The curve is any free-form, two-dimensional shape that you draw on the polygon object in the Viewing Area.
Profile Curve group - assists in the construction of a free-form two-dimensional curve that will slice the polygon object. The user will define the shape of the curve by clicking points on the polygon object in the Viewing Area. To undo the previous point, press Ctrl-Z. To undo many points, press and hold Ctrl-Z.
Crease Angle decimal field - If a point is more than Angle degrees out of line with the previous two, it will be connected to the previous point by a straight line. If a point is less than or equal to Angle degrees out of line with the previous two, it will be connected to the previous point by a curved spline.
Density decimal field -
Depth decimal field - specifies the depth of cut that will be made by the curve when you press the Create button. If Depth is not sufficient to cut all the way through the object, results are unpredictable.
Extrusion group -
Create button - creates a preview of the location and depth of the cut. Rotate the object slightly to see the preview.
Reset button - removes the preview. The shape of the curve cannot be changed, but the polygon object can be rotated, zoomed in or out, or reoriented into a predefined view.
Intersect Extrusion button - slices the curve through the polygon object, leaving a hole that is the shape of the curve.
Delete Selection checkbox -
Reverse Selection button - alternates the selection between the piece that was cut out and the piece from which it was cut.
Create Boundary checkbox (applicable when Fill Intersection is checked) - specifies whether to red boundary lines where the the curve sliced the surface of the object. Boundaries can be further manipulated on the Boundaries Menu.
Fill Intersection checkbox - specifies whether to create additional polygon mesh on the primary object and on the extruded section where the curve sliced through, thus preventing (or allowing) the exposure of a hollow interior.
OK button - Saves the section to the Model Manager and closes the dialog. A change to an object is permanent.
Cancel button - Terminates the dialog without saving a section to the Model Manager.
