Polygons > Merge merges two or more selected polygon objects into a single, composite object. This function automatically performs noise reduction, global registration, and uniform sampling, and places the resulting polygon object in the Model Manager in an object named Merged N.
(To select more than one polygon object in the Model Manager, click one polygon object then Ctrl-click additional polygon objects, or use View > Objects > Select All.) This is similar to Points > Merge.
The order of events is: noise reduction on the individual objects, global registration, noise reduction on the combined object, and sampling of the combined object.
The controls are:
Local Noise Reduction dropdown (None, Min, Medium, or Max) - specifies the degree of noise reduction (correction of the position of outlying points or polygons) to be performed on the original objects before registration takes place.
Global Registration checkbox -
Max Deviation field (0 to ...) - specifies the average distance between corresponding points on different objects that cannot be exceeded before the objects are considered to be fully registered.
Max Iterations field (1 to 1000) - specifies the maximum number of passes that can occur in the effort to achieve registration that is within Max Deviation.
Sampling dropdown (5%, 10%, 25%, 50%, or 100%) - specifies the percentage of points or polygons that will be considered during the registration process.
Global Noise Reduction dropdown (None, Min, Medium, Max, or the default Auto) - specifies a degree of noise reduction (correction of the position of outlying points or polygons) that will occur after registration.
Sampling group - specifies a degree of data reduction that will occur during the merge process
Point Spacing checkbox and field - specifies the minimum distance between points in the resulting object.
Target Triangles checkbox and field - specifies the maximum number of triangles in the resulting object.
Slider (5 degrees from Performance to Quality; only when Target Triangles in ON and Point Spacing if OFF) - based of the value of Target Triangles, calculates a point spacing that minimizes execution time or maximizes shape retention.
Keep Original Data checkbox - whether to keep or delete the original polygon objects in the Model Manager.
OK button - merges the polygon objects and saves a new Merged object to the Model Manager.
Cancel button - terminates the dialog without merging.
