A Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline (NURB) Surface is a set of smoothly connected curves imposed on an angular surface to make that surface look smooth.
The NURBS menu appears in the Shape Phase only. The tools related to NURB surfaces are:
Fit Surfaces - generates a NURBS surface based on
the grids that lie in patches that lie on panels.
Modify NURBS Patch Layer - (selectable after NURBS > Fit Surfaces) modifies the smoothness of a NURBS surface by editing the number of NURBS control points and amount of tension on those points, one row of patches at a time.
Modify Surface Tension - allows adjustment of the surface tension that was specified in NURBS > Fit Surfaces.
Relax Surfaces - smoothes the NURBS surface by relaxing the NURBS control points independently of the underlying polygons.
Merge Surfaces - combines two or more patches into
a single patch.
Refit Surfaces - regenerates a NURBS surface in selected patches
Delete Surfaces - (or the Del key) removes the NURBS
surface within selected patches.
Edit Control Points - (available after NURBS
> Fit
Surfaces) modifies a NURBS surface by changing the position
of individual NURBS control points.
Edit Corners and Boundaries - repositions NURBS control points that form spline boundaries and corners (by clicking and dragging).
To CAD Phase - converts a Shape object that has a NURBS surface into into a CAD object.
Spline Boundaries to Curves - converts the spline boundaries of a NURBS surface (the patch lines) to a Curves Object in the Model Manager.
Cross Section - creates a two-dimensional outline where the CAD object intersects a plane.
Remove Surfaces - (applicable when the current Shape object has a NURBS surface) removes the NURBS surface from a Shape object, revealing the underlying panels, patches within those panels, and grids within those patches.
