Edit > Select presents a set of tools that select data by various geometric algorithms (rather than by using the mouse in the Viewing Area).
Most selection functions operate on the entire object, or on a subset of points or polygons that you select before starting the function.
The selection tools are:
Edit > Select > By Angle - selects a range of polygons whose normals range between 0 and n degrees away from the normal of a specified plane.
Edit > Select > By Edge Length - selects all polygons or cells whose longest edge is greater than or equal to a specified length.
Edit > Select > By Area - selects components of the polygon or ordered point object whose area is less than or equal to a given percentage of the whole object.
Edit > Select > By Curvature - selects polygons that lie in regions of a given curvature (or less).
Edit > Select > Best Data - selects the best data in a region where two or more ordered point objects overlap, plus all data that exist in only one of the objects.
Edit > Select > By
Crease Angle - selects all contiguous polygons that meet at
a specified angle (or less), starting from a single polygon, a cluster
of polygons, or multiple singles or clusters.
Edit > Select > Outliers - selects points that are at least a given distance from most others.
Edit > Select > Disconnected Components - (applicable to an unordered point object) puts islands of points into “island groups” based on their proximity, then selects island group based on their percentage of the entire object.
Edit > Select > Boundaries - selects one or more natural boundaries on a point or polygon object.
Edit > Select > Dangling - selects all polygons that do not bound volume.
Edit > Select > Custom Region - selects the region of a point or polygon object that lies inside a user-specified fence.
Edit > Select > Volume - selects all points or polygons that lie within a user-specified bounding box. The bounding box is specified by two points.
Edit > Select > Full Components - (applicable to polygon and ordered point objects) selects contiguous components on which at least one triangle is already selected.
Edit > Select > Manifold Components - expands a selection to include all contiguous manifold triangles.
Edit > Select > Bounded Components - selects all polygons inside all boundaries (as previously created by Polygons > Section by Plane or other methods) that have at least one polygon that is already selected.
Edit > Select > Expand - selects all polygons (or ordered points) that touch existing selections. The effect is to extend a selection by one polygon (or ordered point) in every direction.
Edit > Select > Expand Multi - performs Edit > Select > Expand fives times.
Edit > Select > Shrink - shrinks the size of selected polygon (or ordered point) regions by un-selecting the outer-most band(s) of polygons (or ordered points).
Edit > Select > Shrink Multi - performs Edit > Select > Shrink fives times.
