Edit > Phase is a set of functions that convert the object from one type to another and change the available menus accordingly.

Edit > Phase > Point
Phase - permanently converts a wrap, polygon, or CAD object into
a point object by converting existing
vertices to points. This is like “un-wrapping” an object to expose
underlying points, but not the same as Edit
> Simulate
Scan in which you can specify the number of points.
Edit > Phase > Wrap
Phase - When highlighted (not gray), this icon indicates that the
object is a wrap object and that the Wrap Menu is available.
Edit > Phase > Polygon
Phase - converts a Shape object to a Polygon object, or a volume-wrapped
object to a full-fledged polygon object. Click this when wrap-phase operations
are complete.
Edit > Phase > Polygon Mode (only when the current object is a Polygon object) limits the set of menus in the menu bar to one of the following:
Edit > Phase > Polygon Mode > Polygon Operations
- is a set of menus consisting of Polygons Menu, Boundaries Menu, and Curves Menu.
Edit > Phase > Polygon Mode > Sharpen Operations
- is a set of menus consisting of Curves Menu and Sharpen Menu.
Edit > Phase > Shape
Phase - converts a polygon object to a Shape object and activates
appropriate menus in the menu bar.
The controls are:
Boundary Cycles / Holes indicator - displays the number of
Operation group - specifies how (and whether) to derive an initial set of patches on the object in Shape phase. Pick one:
Convert Curves to Boundaries radio button (appears only if there are curves on the polygon object) - specifies that curve lines shall be converted to constrained (red) boundary lines.
Restore Patch Layout radio button (appears only if the object previously had a set of patches, and the object was reverted to polygon phase, and the user chose to preserve that patch layout during the transition to polygon phase) - specifies whether to restore the patch layout that was preserved during an earlier transition to Polygon phase.
Restore Partial Patch Layout radio button - (appears only if the object previously had a partial set of patches, and the object was reverted to polygon phase, and the user chose to preserve that patch layout during the transition to polygon phase) - specifies whether to restore the partial patch layout that was preserved during an earlier transition to Polygon phase.
Create New Patch Layout radio button (the default. This is the only choice if the object has no curves and no patch layout was preserved during an earlier transition to Polygon phase.) - Do not derive an initial set of patches. Start with a blank slate.
OK button - Continue the transition to Shape Phase.
Cancel button - terminate the transition to Shape Phase, and remain in Polygon Phase.
