The Edit menu offers the following functions:
Undo - (or Ctrl-Z) un-do the previous operation.
Redo - (or Ctrl-Y) re-do the previously un-done operation.
Selection Tools - are settings that affect the behavior of the selection tool.
Select - tools for the selection of points by advanced geometry, such as by surface curvature or volume.
Select All - selects the entire object.
Clear All - un-selects the entire object.
Reverse Selection - selects all parts of the current point, polygon, or CAD object that are not selected, and un-selects all selected parts.
Backfaces
Mode - causes the selection
tools to affect point, polygon, or CAD object faces that are not visible
from the user’s perspective.
Select
Visible Only (or Ctrl-V) - causes the selection tools to affect
polygons or CAD faces that are visible from the user’s perspective.
Select Through
(or Ctrl-G) - causes the selection tools (including those at Edit >
Selection Tools) to affect polygons and CAD faces that are visible to
the viewer and all
occluded polygons or faces that lie “behind” the visible polygons
or faces.
- is a set of functions that manipulate boundaries.
Selection to Object - converts a selected region to a separate object.
Components to Objects - converts all islands of polygons to separate objects in the Model Manager. No selection is necessary.
Duplicate Objects - makes a copy of the active object.
Select Objects - (or Alt-8) highlights (activates) all objects in the Model Manager that are of the same type (like point, polygon, or CAD) as the current object.
Select All Objects - is a mouse-free method of selecting all objects from the Model Manager. This allows the selection to be recorded in a macro.
Reset Model - restores the object’s position in the world coordinate system to it’s home position (its position before any alignment or rotation).
Reorient Model - establishes an object’s current position in the world coordinate system as its home position.
Scale Model - reduces or enlarges the active object by a numerical factor.
Mirror Model - creates a symmetry by duplicating the structure of an object on the other side of a working plane.
Units - converts the unit of measurement from one system to another on all objects in the Model Manager, or scales the objects by changing the unit name without re-conversion.
Properties - maintains a set of identifying labels such as Author name, project Title, and Date.
Simulate Scan - creates an ordered point object from an unordered point object or polygon object that is selected in the Model Manager. Only the currently visible points are “scanned”.
Create Point Cover - creates a points-only object (with a -pts suffix in the Model Manager) of the selected polygon or CAD object.
Clear Undo - erases the memory of the most recent operation, making Edit > Undo (Ctrl-Z) and Edit > Redo (Ctrl-Y) non-functional.
Phase - A “phase” is the set of functions that are available for a given type of object. When a point object is active, the functions that are available are the ones that operate on a point object, so the application is said to be in the point phase. When a polygon object is active, the functions that are available are the ones that operate on a polygon object, so the application is said to be in the polygon phase.
These phase-transition functions convert the active object to another type and change the set of menus to be type-specific.
