Curves > Create Curve Object converts a curve line on a point or polygon object to a Curves Object and stores it in the Model Manager.
Control Points group -
Control Points Layout dropdown (Adaptive, Tolerance-Based, Constant) - establishes the rules for the placement of control points, which ultimately affect the position and smoothness of the Curves object.
Adaptive - sets the number of control points based on the length of the longest curve line. Enter a value into one of the two following fields; the other is calculated automatcially:
Maximum Control Points field - specifies the number of control points of the longest boundaries. Based on this number, the control points are equally spaced from one another, Control Points Spacing is calculated automatically.
Control Point Spacing field - specifies a fixed distance between control points.
Tension decimal field - specifies a degree of elasticity on the proposed Curves object.
Tolerance-Based - establishes the position of the proposed Curves object based on the Error Tolerance field and the curvature of the original curve line. It inserts more control points in regions of high curvature and fewer control points in regions of low curvature. The fields that are specific to Tolerance-based layout are:
Error Tolerance decimal field - specifies the maximum distance that the proposed Curves object may diverge from the original curve line.
Tension decimal field - specifies a degree of elasticity on the proposed Curves object.
Constant - establishes an absolute number of control points in each line of the Curves object, regardless of length or curvature of the original boundary. The fields that are specific to Constant layout are:
Control Points integer field - specifies the exact number of control points in each line that comprises the Curves object.
Tension decimal field - specifies a degree of elasticity on the proposed Curves object.
Diagnostic indicators group - reports details about the original curve lines (not the Curves object).
Minimum Curve Length indicator - the length of the shortest curve line.
Maximum Curve Length indicator - the length of the longest curve line.
Average Curve Length indicator - the length of the average curve line.
Name of New Curve Object field - specifies the name to be assigned to the new Curves Object in the Model manager. The default name can be overridden.
OK button - saves the new Curves object to the Model Manager and closes the dialog.
Cancel button - terminates the dialog without saving a Curves object.
To convert a curve line to a Curve Object:
Verify that the Point or Polygon object has curve lines (created by Curves > Extract Curves or Curves > Create / Modify Curves).
Select Curves > Create Curve Object. A dialog opens.
Pick a Control Point Layout and its associated parameters.
Enter a Tension value.
Type a name for the Curves Object that will be created, or accept the default name.
Press the OK button, or Cancel to terminate without creating an object.
