Contours > Detect Curvature is the automatic placement of lines on areas of curvature.
Use Detect Curvature or Contours > Detect Contours, but not both.
There are two kinds of resulting curvature line:
An orange line - the precursor of panel a demarcation line.
A black line - a place-holder line that can be promoted to orange.
The controls are:
Granularity group - affects the total number of black place-holder lines that will appear on the Shape object. In a later step, black place-holder lines can be promoted into orange panel-demarcation lines. Use the Granularity group of controls to specify relatively many or few black lines.
Auto Estimate checkbox - specifies that the application will calculate an appropriate number of black place-holder lines.
Target field (applicable when Auto Estimate is Off) - allows the user to specify a number of black place-holder lines.
Curvature Level (0.00 to 1; default based on Tools > Options) - specifies the sensitivity of the algorithm that converts a black place-holder line to an orange panel-demarcation line. 0 means that the slightest curvature is converted to orange; 1 means that even the highest curvature is not converted to orange.
Simplify Contour Lines (checkbox) - attempts to generate orange panel-demarcation lines in complete closed loops. Any high-curvature area that would deserve an orange line, but which is not part of a continuous loop of orange lines, receives a black place-holder line.
OK button - saves the Shape object with black place-holder lines and orange panel-demarcation lines, and closes the dialog.
Cancel button - closes the dialog without saving any changes to the Shape object.
Apply button - generates the requested number of black place-holder lines (and converts some to orange panel-demarcation lines according to the Curvature Level field and Simplify Contour Lines checkbox).
