Draw Bead

The draw bead forming condition is used to simulate the control of material flow into the die cavity using a draw bead or a lock bead.  If a draw bead is constructed out of a number of draw bead sets with different properties, the last part of a set and the first point of the next set should be coincidental.  If they are too far apart, there will be a gap in the draw bead and the material will not be constrained between the two draw bead sets. 

To apply a draw bead to your part, select the Draw Bead option under the Forming Conditions icon.

To apply a draw bead you will need an existing line on the part (either created in the geometry workbench or imported with the model).  Select the line to apply the draw bead to and specify the strain or tension to be applied.   

NOTE:  When you specify either strain or tension the other will automatically update.

Drawbead (DB) can be applied only to lines.

To create DB, click the "Forming Conditions" icon on the forming workbench toolbar , and select "Draw Bead". The dialog will appear and:

• All previous selected entities will be unselected
• The Select Lines button checked and the selection filter automatically set to select lines.
• All controls should be set to 0 and the slider set to Low, and the OK button is disabled.

During Selection:

• The DB is not displayed on the part. Only the geometry and selected lines are displayed.
• Selection will be the same as with regular selection (i.e. with ctrl key for multiple selection)
• As soon as one line is selected, the controls are updtated automatically with default values once edges are selected, and the OK button is enabled.
• You may end selection by clicking on the Select Lines button again to uncheck it, or you can simply start entering values/adjusting the slider

At this point, you can start to edit the DB parameters using the slider or by entering values.

During Editing:

• The Select Lines button will automatically be unchecked, turning the selection off.
• All other interdependent controls will update automatically, along with the DB display.
• If you wish to select more lines, click on the Select Lines button and select more lines.
