Boring Tool dialog - General tab

Other parameters may appear in the dialog, defined by customised Code Generator files that specify which commands and parameters EdgeCAM displays.

ToolStore - Press the Find button to open the ToolStore. Pick the appropriate tool and click Select. Please note that it is not possible to enter '*' as a wildcard in the find string.

Position - Specifies the position that the tool occupies on the turret (this defaults to the last-used turret position).

Offset - Select the offset register for the tool, as specified by the machine tool controller.

Comment - Enter a text string that is placed in the CNC file as a comment when you generate code from the machining sequence.

Please note that when adding a tool that does not have a ToolStore name the name used in the EdgeCAM sequence will be used for the tool description. If this exceeds 38 characters it will be truncated.

Symbol - Defines the insert symbol from a list of ISO insert symbol types.

See this illustration of the following few parameters. This is based on a right handed turning tool (defined relative to the tool axis).

Included Angle - Defines the angle between the end and the side of the insert.

Edge Length - Defines the length of the cutting edge of the insert.

Inscribed Circle - Defines the diameter of an imaginary circle that could just fit inside the outline of the insert.

End Angle - Defines the angle between the tool axis and the end of the insert.

Side Angle - Defines the angle between the tool axis and the side of the insert.

Nose Radius - Defines the radius of the corner at the cutting end of the insert.

Units - Specifies which units (mm or inches) the tool parameters are measured in.

Sandvik Coromant Wiper

% Feed non Wiper - When the tool is not cutting on the wiping portion of the Sandvik Coromant Wiper profile the feerate is reduced to this percentage. This is to maintain surface finish. The default value of %30 (%70 reduction) is recommended. A tool might be cutting on the non-wiping portion when cutting a tapering diameter for example.

Wiper Style - Select the Sandvik Coromant Wiper style you want to use. Select None for non-Wiper inserts.

Only certain combinations of (insert) Symbol, Nose Radius, Edge Length/Inscribed Circle and Wiper Style are valid, as detailed in this table. If you specify an invalid combination you will see the error message 'No Wiper match found'.

Orientation - Select from Axial, Radial and Reverse Axial to define the position of the tool axis relative to the Machine Tool Co-ordinate System. See an illustration.

Hand of Tool - Specifies which side of the rotary spindle axis the tool cuts. See an illustration.

Feed Type - (Advanced turning code generator only) Specifies feed type in mm/inches per minute or mm/inches per revolution.

Reverse - Check to rotate the tool 180° about its own axis. See an illustration. Whether you reverse the tool or not depends on the direction of the machine spindle's rotation.

Angle - Defines the angle at which the tool is mounted relative to the Turn CPL Z-axis. For non B-axis machines the tool has to be physically mounted at the angle specified. For B-axis machines an angular move is generated to the specified angle. See Turning Tools Loaded at an Angle.
