Turn Feature dialog

Manually identify Turn features if automatically finding using Feature Finder does not find all the machineable features.

You select 'turnable' faces in the Turn CPL and Turn features are created from the faces connected to it. You can also select the complete model and generate a single turn feature from the connecting turnable faces.

Unlike the automatic Feature Finder which finds the maximum turned envelope, the Turn Feature command will find the profile edges. The command consistently works in the same direction. The solid material will always be on the left side of the profile in the direction the tool is travelling.

If you select non-turnable faces you see the error message “Some Face(s) did not form simple connected geometry and have been ignored”.

To be used in Turn features, faces must be cylindrical faces and have their centre on the Z axis of the Turn CPL. You can find out whether a face is cylindrical by using the Entity (Verify menu) command.

If some of your faces are not cylindrical the Feature Finder (Solids menu) command should be used. This may take longer to process as the face is swept to find the outer profile.

Name

Specify a name (of up to eight characters) to be assigned to the feature in the browser.

Lower Turret

Check this for the turn envelope to be assigned to the Lower Turret, rather than the Upper Turret.
