Preferences dialog - Selection tab

Specifies entity selection preferences when working with EdgeCAM.

Fast Window Selection - During a window selection, the window is drawn in the hardware by EdgeCAM. When using a graphics card that does not support this ghost images will be left on the screen. By disabling this option the selection window will only be drawn in the software.

Entity Tooltips - Check this to enable the display of entity tooltips. If the cursor pauses on an entity a tooltip box appears with identification of that item.

Default to Select Only - Check this to set the default entity digitise to 'Select Only'. If unchecked, the setting is 'Toggle' which means that successive hits on an entity will alternately select and deselect it.

3D Chain by Default - In GLview, a double digitise on an entity will automatically chain in 2D. To enable 3D chaining you need to hold down the CTRL key while digitising. Check this box if you want to enable 3D chaining by default.

These parameters enable you to control the entity selection options in GLview mode:

Endpoints - When a command is active and the cursor is placed on or near the end of an entity, a square is displayed in the highlight colour to indicate that the next digitise would snap to that endpoint. The default for this option is ON.

Midpoint - When a command is active and the cursor is placed on or near the midpoint of an entity, a cross is displayed in the highlight colour to indicate that the next digitise would snap to that midpoint. The default for this option is ON.

Arc Centre - When a command is active and the cursor is placed on or near the centre of an arc, a circle is displayed in the highlight colour to indicate that the next digitise would snap to that arc centre. The default for this option is ON.

Arc Quadrant - When a command is active and the cursor is placed on or near a quadrant position (0, 90, 180, 360 degrees), a quadrant symbol is displayed in the highlight colour to indicate that the next digitise would snap to that position. The default for this option is OFF.

Vertex - (This option is only available for solids) When a command is active and the cursor is placed on or near a vertex on a solid, the vertex will be displayed in the highlight colour. The default for this option is OFF.

Cylinder - As the cursor is placed on or near the centre of a cylinder, a circle in the 'flyover' colour will appear. If the left-hand mouse button is selected when the circle is displayed, an entity digitise will be made at that point. This option is used when working with solids for setting a datum by creating a CPL on the end of a cylinder. The default setting for this option is ON.

  Tool on Cursor

Tool on Cursor - Check this for a graphic of the current tool to follow the cursor when digitising cycle geometry (only cycle geometry - does not apply for operations).

Free Picks Only - Check this for the tool to be shown on the cursor only for free digitises (so preventing the tool obscuring the geometry for entity digitises). This always applies - when only entity digitises are possible, or when both free and entity digitises are possible but you are using the Ctrl key (for example) to force an entity digitise.

Track Cursor - Only available in Classic View. Check this to display cursor co-ordinates in the co-ordinate window. Otherwise, co-ordinates are only reported from digitises.

Enable Window/Double-click - Only available in Classic View. Check this to enable the window selection by double-clicking.
