Although most milling cycles include ways of describing tool approach strategies, EdgeCAM provides two standalone Move menu commands to control the approach of the tool to depth: Ramp Helical and Ramp Zigzag.
Replace - Check to select an instruction and then digitise a node on the toolpath of that instruction. The node is replaced with the new Ramp move.
Orientation - Specifies an angle from which to start the move, with zero degrees being the 'three o'clock' position.
Angle - Specifies the vertical angle of the ramp, with 90 degrees being a vertical move.
Length - Specifies the length of each ramp segment, which must be a positive value.
Feedrate - Specifies the horizontal cutting speed of the tool.
Speed - Specifies the rotational speed of the tool.
Wire
Feedrate - Specifies the feedrate in units per minute.
Mill & Turn
Feedrate - Specifies the feedrate in the workplane in units per revolution or in units per minute. You can select the type of feed using the Feed Type (M-Functions menu) command.
Plunge Feed - Specifies the vertical feed rate (in Turning, this applies to C Axis only).
Speed - Specifies the rotational speed of the tool on a milling centre in revolutions per minute. The type of tool movement depends on whether the 2D Snap button is selected. The default is for this button to be selected. If the 2D Snap button is selected, the tool can only move in the workplane at the current height. If 2D Snap is off, the feed move ignores all Z information (for example, from an entity digitise).
On a turning centre, this refers to the spindle speed, measured in units per revolution. This is overridden if you have selected constant surface speed using the CSS (M-Functions menu) command. CSS is normally only used with turning centres with fixed tooling (but not drills and taps).
Start Level - Specifies the absolute height at which the move is to start.
Name - Specifies a named cycle. The approach move will be made to the start of the named cycle. This is mutually exclusive with the Replace parameter.
