When Areaclear Roughing a male part, you can specify an Angle, Radius and length to be applied to each end of the clipped profiles and to each closed profile. With the External Boss strategy, all the standard Pocket approach methods will be unavailable. Use External Boss when you want to avoid plunging the tool into material at the beginning of the cycle.

Toolpath example using external boss strategy

Note that the offset for the cycle is only applied to the inner shape. Also note that any female region within the male area is not machined, and must be pocketed in a separate cycle.

This toolpath shows the External Boss strategy.

External Boss strategy with Cut by Region option checked

Here the Cut by Region box has been checked.

Notice that each open profile region is machined separately, with the mill type (Climb/Conventional) being maintained.

External boss strategy with Lace Cut option checked

And here the Lace Cut box has been checked.

The advantage here is that the tool stays at depth and spends less time retracting. The disadvantage is that the tool cuts both ways, ignoring the mill type.
