'Links'
are moves between cuts. If leads are specified, links are between Lead
Out and Lead In moves. The 'Short Link Distance Value' you set divides
links into 'Long' or 'Short', so that you can apply different strategies
to them.
Different lengths of links can be produced by the 'Mill Type' setting.
For 'Climb' or 'Conventional', links are longer as the tool starts a cut
at the opposite end to where it finished the last cut, whereas for 'Optimised',
links are shorter as the tool starts each cut at the same end it finished
the last.
'Gaps' are where there is a gap in the drive surface (for example you might have digitised two distinct surfaces to form the drive surface, which have a gap between them). As with links, there are 'Short Gaps' and 'Long Gaps' with an adjustable threshold between them.
|
Short Links |
The strategy to use for short links. Choose from 'Straight', 'Safe Feed', 'Follow Surface', 'Smooth'. |
|
|
Links shorter than this value are classed as 'Short' links, links longer than this value are classed as 'Long' links. |
|
Long Links |
The strategy to use for Long links. Choose from 'Rapid Feed and 'Clearance'. |
|
Safe Distance |
The distance from the part at which the tool will switch from rapid to feedrate, towards the end of link moves. This only applies when 'Feed When Plunging' is unchecked, when the whole Link will be at feedrate. |
|
Feed When Plunging |
Check this for the tool to move at feedrate throughout Link moves. |
|
Short Gaps |
The strategy to use for short gaps. Choose from 'Straight', 'Safe Feed', 'Follow Surface', 'Smooth'. |
|
Long Gaps |
The strategy to use for long gaps. Choose from 'Straight', 'Safe Feed', 'Follow Surface', 'Smooth', 'Rapid Feed', 'Clearance'. |
|
Gap Link Distance |
Gaps shorter than this value are classed as 'Shor't gaps, links longer than this value are classed as 'Long' gaps. See an illustration where Short gaps are 'Smooth' and Long gaps are 'Safe Feed'... |
