The Machine Datum parameter specifies the machine origin position. This is used as the reference point for the tool home and tool change positions. Typically on turning centers the machine datum is positioned at the back of the main spindle chuck. If no Machine Datum is specified it defaults to the Initial CPL.

The turret gauge distances (X&Z) are measured from the turret datum to the tool setting point, these distances are specified in the code generator. In addition tooling gauge values can be set on the Loading tab of the tool change command. The turret and tool gauge distances are combined to show the true position of the tool tip at tool change and tool home positions.
For accurate simulation the gauge distances must be specified.
