Creates text and text features.

Font Type - Specifies whether to use Vector or TrueType fonts.

When transferring work from one computer to another please be aware that TrueType fonts on different machines may vary or not be available.

Vertical - Check to produce vertical text (characters are one under the other rather than side by side).

Fit Box - Check to position text centred horizontally and vertically within a box. You will be prompted to digitise opposite corners of the box. Please note that text is NOT wrapped in order to achive a fit. Text strings that are too long to fit into the box will generate a warning message.

Rotation - Sets the angle for the text. Zero degrees is horizontal.

Mirror - Selects how to mirror the text:

None - Normal text.

Vertical - Mirror text about a vertical axis.

Horizontal - Mirror text about a horizontal axis.

Alignment - Specifies how to align the text:

Left - Lines of text are aligned against the left hand edge (the digitised position), i.e. the text will be placed to the right of this point.

Centre - The text is centred at the digitised location.

Right - Lines of text are aligned against the right hand edge (the digitised position), i.e. the text will be placed to the left of this point.

Height - Specifies the default text height.

Note: The "height" of a TrueType font is a complex matter, particularly since character heights vary within a font as does their position in relation to the base line. Generally, the figure is based on the height of a capital M plus leading allowances to give an overall height which is the distance between base lines in multi-line text. It is this height which EdgeCAM uses.

Vector

String - Click Edit to enter the required text.

Font/Style - Selects a font for the text.

Width - Specifies the default text width of each character.

Line Spacing - Specifies the default line spacing when more there is more than one line of text. The line spacing is the distance between the bottom of one line of text and the bottom of the next line.

Slant - Specifies the angle of the text characters from the horizontal. Normal characters would have an angle of 90º. Italics are produced by an angle of 60º.

TrueType

When transferring work from one computer to another please be aware that TrueType fonts on different machines may vary or not be available.

Space (%) - Expands or condenses the space between characters by the amount specified.*

Note that some character pairs may overlap in certain fonts, especially in italic mode. This can be corrected by inserting a "1/4 em" space between them. Enter ALT + 0160 using the number pad.

Kerning - Check to adjust the spacing between particular combinations of characters, so that the entire word looks more evenly spaced.*

Italic - Check to apply italic font formatting to text.

Bold - Check to apply bold font formatting to text.

Explode - Check to create geometry as lines and Bezier curves. Text created with this option exists as independent geometric entities only and cannot be treated as a text feature.

Name - If required, specify a name for the text entity created.

*Kerning adjusts the spacing between particular pairs of letters depending on the font design. Space (%) alters the spacing between all letters by the same amount.
