Updating against Code Wizard Templates

To take advantage of changes and fixes in the Code Wizard template files:

It is advisable to do this routinely for each new version of EdgeCAM.

See also Code Wizard and Code Generator Corrections and Fixes.

To access the latest milling features, including parametric machine graphics, Five Axis cycle, 4/5 axis operations, indexing and spindle control, create a new code generator from one of the new adaptive milling templates, copying across your settings and code constructor contents from your existing CGD. (You cannot update against a template that the CGD was not based on. Note that the structure of the NC Style and Code Generators will have changed slightly, and the availability of tokens may be different.)

To add graphics to CGDs from the earlier non-adaptive templates you need to create an appropriate Machine Tree setup in Code Wizard, using the Machine Elements toolbar, and build the graphics into this. Note you can only add custom graphics, not parametric graphics.

Correction to Lower Turret Radial CPL Orientation

www.kxcad.net Home > CAM Index > EdgeCAM Index >

A correction has been made to the orientation of the Lower Turret Radial CPL, for driven tools, in all appropriate templates.

This may dramatically change the generated NC code, and affected parts must be checked and corrected before use in production.

In such an affected part, typically an allowance would have been made for the incorrect orientation by using inverted Z values in cycle settings - for example by specifying a Clearance at '-38', instead of '38'. Now that the CPL is correct, the clearance would have to be swapped back from '-38' to '38'.

Adaptive-index g200 Template - Hole cycle NC Code Changes

Hole cycle NC code from code generators based on the latest Adaptive-index g200 Template may show changes. Affected parts must be checked before use in production.

The template has been changed to remove blank blocks from the Hole cycle NC code output. Corrections have also been made to CAXIS processing, causing possible mode changes in the NC output.

EdgeCAM Support on Windows 2000 Professional to End

EdgeCAM 11.0 is the last version to support the Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional operating system. This means that version 11.5 due for customer release in March 2007 will not allow the installation of EdgeCAM on the Windows 2000 Professional operating system.

The reasons for this policy are:

The installation of Network License server software (the NetHASP and Sentinel RMS license managers) will continue to be supported on Windows 2000 Professional until such time as the suppliers change their respective policies. Please refer to the installation guide for more information on Network License Servers.

Roughing Operation - change to cycle's Link Type Setting

www.kxcad.net Home > CAM Index > EdgeCAM Index >

Within a Roughing operation, the embedded Roughing cycle now has its 'Link Type' set to 'Clearance', rather than 'Optimised', as this is the safer alternative (this setting is in the Approach tab).

On regenerating old parts with an 'Optimised' setting, this setting will change. If you need to switch back to Optimised, edit the cycle within the operation.

Rest Profiling unavailable when Undercutting

Rest profiling is not supported when undercutting, so now in the Profiling cycle checking 'Undercut' in the General tab makes the Rest Profiling tab settings unavailable.

Five Axis Finishing Operation - change to cycle's Short link distance

www.kxcad.net Home > CAM Index > EdgeCAM Index >

Within a Five Axis Finishing operation, the embedded Five Axis cycle now has its 'Short Link Distance' (Links tab) set to 1.5 x Cut Distance value (General tab). If no Cut Distance is specified, the setting defaults to 5mm or 0.2".

On regenerating old parts, the Short Link Distance setting will change. If you need to change this, edit the cycle within the operation.

New &BAXIS PCI System Variable

A new PCI system variable has been created (see also Indexing to B Angles for Five Axis Cycle - Mill/Turn):

&BAXIS

0 = No B Axis.

1 = Positional Only (machine can index to B angles but not simultaneously drive the B axis).

2 = Simultaneous (machine can drive the B axis simultaneously).
