As the strategy progresses it should be tested for errors. Initial testing can be done by using the Validate option in the context menu (right-hand mouse click) to check that the strategy logic is valid.
Validation will check the integrity of each path through the strategy reporting on each one and indicating any problems found. These include
Loops. (Note that if you do run a strategy with an infinite loop (perhaps an un-validated one) this produces an error. In the error dialog there is a button for Aborting.)
Nodes that cannot be reached
Paths that do not terminate at an end node
The next test is to save the strategy and then to apply it to a suitable feature in EdgeCAM. These tests should start when you have a very simple strategy with only one or two processes and be carried out at regular intervals as the strategy grows.
Remember to test on unsuitable features as well to ensure that they are recognized and not machined by the wrong method.
When testing in EdgeCAM, pay particular attention to the way in which tools are selected and to the setting of cycle modifiers. Depth related modifiers in Hole cycles will often have been calculated and should be checked rigorously for through/blind holes, counter bore, countersink, tapped, peck and other combinations that the strategy may encounter.
