Always start with a very simple strategy, for example centre drilling, and then build it up gradually. Check regularly for errors as the strategy evolves rather than waiting until you have a complex flow chart that will be difficult to correct.
Draw a balance between a single, very complex, strategy aimed at doing "everything" and too many very simple strategies that are almost identical.
Strategies, once accepted for production, should only be changed in a controlled way. If every user tweaks the strategy for each job he encounters the benefits will be lost. It is better to make short term alterations to the created sequence than to modify the strategy which should be treated as a standard.
Take special care when setting up ToolStore filters that the correct tool will always be selected. Use of at least one range filter is a good way of ensuring that something is selected and use of Ascending/Descending will ensure that the smallest/largest of those available will be used.
When using Feature Finder, "Max Height for Concentric Holes" should be set.
If tapping is required the "Threading Information" option on the feature Finder dialog must be checked.
Special formed holes can be denoted by setting the Feature comment field and then using that within Strategy Manager to pick a form tool by name.
Feature comment can also be used to denote ream or other finishing requirements.
Check right through to NC output. Especially ensure that depths, feeds/speeds and tool selections are always as desired.
