Strategies provide a means of automatically generating the optimum set of EdgeCAM machining instructions for a feature. You generate the instructions by applying a previously-created strategy to the feature.
You create a number of strategies, each tailored for a particular set of feature characteristics (most obviously the strategies must be tailored for whether the feature is a hole or 3D feature).
The real power of strategies is that you can make them intelligent. By building conditions into your strategies you can make them adapt themselves; for example to feature attributes and materials. You could set up a strategy to choose a drill diameter that is equal to the hole feature's diameter.
You import the process instructions (toolchanges, cycles etc.) from EdgeCAM. These imported instructions provide the basis for the Strategy's outputted instructions (that machine a feature). You can however change the modifiers within Strategy Manager, and create the linkages that make them sensitive to feature attributes.
Strategy Manager is an interactive, graphical environment.
Please note:
We recommend that strategies are prepared as company standards by an "expert user" to be applied across the whole organization to standardize methods and to reduce programming times.
It is envisaged that Strategy Manager will be used in conjunction with Job Manager and ToolStore.
The sample strategy provided with EdgeCAM is not intended to be used without local modification. You should define your own strategies, with as many variants as are required, to suit your specific preferences and requirements.
For holes you can perform all variants of the Hole cycle and can also use the enhanced thread mill cycle, specifying the thread by centre point and diameter.
When using Feature Finder any feature with a diameter greater than the specified maximum will be created as a pocket.
Strategy Manager is aimed solely at users of Solid Machinist
in the milling environment.
